Roderick Laka

My name is Roderick Laka (@roderick_laka), I am a film photographer all the way from South Africa.

As a creative in the advertising industry, I've spent countless hours trying to find new ways for brands to interact with people and things, and along the way, I've come to realize times are changing and the surroundings along with it, so I've become somewhat obsessed with stopping it through photographic stills of everything like a plants beauty before it wilts, a street filled with things that make it recognizable by those who use it so often they've become oblivious to seeing them and the ever-changing beauty of peoples faces in their everyday lives. I have chosen to do this using Film Photography as my medium. Through Film Photography the essence of stopping a moment for a split second it truly brought to life for me, the rush of having to finish a roll and developing it not knowing if the images are as I saw them the moment they were taken gives me an indescribable feeling I can't get enough of.

Images made using either my Canon AE1 or my Yashica Mat LM, the film stocks I used were Ilford HP5 and FP4
